The tourism industry in Spain accounts for 14 percent of the GDP, and large part is driven by Andalucia and the Marbella area in particular. During the tourism fair FITUR last week, the president of Junta de Andalucia, Juanma Moreno has stated that it is expected that during 2022 tourism levels will achieve 60% of pre-covid levels, with full recovery expected in 2023. A Malaga province effort is being made to attract more upmarket tourism with an emphasis on culture, food and outdoor activities.
