The Spanish government has committed to extend the mortgage relief scheme to include households with annual incomes of up to €37,800, raising it from the previous €29,400 limit. The criteria include being able to demonstrate that over 30 percent of the monthly income goes on mortgage payments, and that the change of monthly payments is more than 30% versus previous payments. Provinces such as Murcia have already been running their own independent relief program since 2022, however the nationwide program is expected to be applicable to more than 1 million households. With the new upper limit for the scheme, calculations based on a mortgage of €150,000, monthly household savings are estimated to be €300 per month or €3,600 per year.
