Malaga is one of the cities bidding for the Americas Cup sailing event in 2024, and the organisers have shown interest in the city’s proposed project of a new leisure port in the San Andres area. An investment fund from Qatar has submitted a proposal valued at 54 million euros over 2 years, which envisages capacity for 506 boats, 2 berths for large 50m yachts and 5 berths for 30m yachts. It also includes a hotel in the cruise ship terminal. The decision of the Americas Cup’s organisers will be announced on the 24th of March 2022.
