A shipwreck off the coast of San Pedro, believed to be from the 1700s, has had a new plan approved to be properly investigated and converted into an important site for scuba enthusiasts. There are several hypotheses surrounding the sinking of this ship, the largest on record in the area. The most official accepted by researchers, points to the possibility that the ship was sunk during the War of the Spanish Succession between 1701 and 1713. The archaeologists point out that it was part of the Franco-Spanish squad that was supporting the maritime blockade that was being carried out in Gibraltar at the time. Creating a tourist attraction of the ship would enhance the cultural appeal of the Marbella area.
