Malaga has advanced to the next round of selection for the host city of the Expo 2027, the event organised by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). Delegates of the organisation have visited the proposed grounds for the exhibition, in Campinillas, Malaga, and have evaluated the proposed project as feasible, and proceeded to recommend it to the final stage. Spain’s King Felipe has thrown his weight behind the ambitious bid, which is expected to bring in 3 million visitors during the 93 days of the event. Revenue from the Expo 2027 is expected to recuperate half of the costs, with the rest being supplied by government subsidies to be recuperated from future operations of the pavilion grounds. The decision on Malaga’s exhibition bid will be known by June 2023.
